Turnkey system for projection and flat panel display production performance testing and defect detection

Radiant Imaging’s PM-PTS™ (Production Test Sequencer) system is a complete turnkey solution for comprehensive QC/QA testing and calibration for multiple display technologies, including front and rear projection systems, LCD and plasma FPDs, CRTs, and FEDs. With extensive test definition capabilities and high-speed operation, PM-PTS reduces manufacturing and testing costs while increasing production throughput for display manufacturers.

With multiple test options, PM-PTS allows fully customized test sequences and user defined pass/fail criteria

The PM-PTS system automates the entire test sequence, including the display of test patterns on the device under test, imaging them with a PM Series™ Imaging Colorimeter, and then analyzing and presenting the measurement results relative to user defined pass/fail criteria. All tests are performed according to a user-defined sequence so that tests can be prioritized. Tests available in PM-PTS include measurements of display brightness, brightness uniformity, contrast ratio (sequential black and white, and checkerboard), color, color uniformity, gamma, distortion, focus, gray scale and convergence. PM-PTS also detects and identifies display point and line defects, and Mura defects (blemishes). In addition, the TrueMURA analysis module (PM-PTS-TM) can included as an option to perform quantification individual Mura and overall display performance on a JND (Just Noticeable Difference) scale.

PM-PTS can be operated in two modes: Administrator and Operator. In password protected Administrator Mode, the user is able to fully specify which tests to perform, determine their sequence, to set a wide variety of pass/fail criteria (for example, number of defects, allowable brightness range, minimum contrast ratio), and to determine how the results are saved in a database archive. In Operator Mode the user is able to initiate testing and see the test results, but is not able to change any tests or testing parameters.

Multiple options for ensure the best fit to every application

PM-PTS can be used with any Radiant Imaging PM Series Imaging Colorimeter, so multiple options are available to achieve the pixel resolution, dynamic range, and cost required for any application. For front projection applications, a calibration light source is available as an option to facilitate removal of individual screen or projection surface characteristics, which could produce artifacts in the measurement process.

During installation, Radiant Imaging engineers can customize PM-PTS to adapt to the command interface of the displays being tested. It is also possible to customize the PM-PTS front-end user interface to meet specific application and technology requirements.
